Devonshire House & Lodge team are celebrating after a memorable evening at the Celebrating Excellence in Care Awards, hosted by Plymouth City Council. The event, held to honour outstanding contributions in the health and social care sector, highlighted the dedication and compassion of care teams across the region.
The evening was particularly special for James and his team, who were awarded Activity Coordinator of the Year – a well-deserved recognition of their commitment to enriching the lives of residents through engaging and meaningful activities.
“We’re absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud of James and his team,” said a spokesperson from Devonshire House & Lodge. Known for his energetic and vibrant approach, James ensures every resident enjoys activities meaningful to them. He holds weekly team meetings to plan events and monthly meetings to plan activities up to three months ahead. James organizes an annual World Cruise, bringing over 40 countries’ cultures, foods, music, and traditions into the home, timed to coincide with each country’s national or special days. Past country celebrations include Brazil (Rio Carnival), Canada (native drumming), Japan (guest in kimono), Australia (games and wildlife visit), and Germany (beer tasting in the new bar). Family members often join dressed in national costumes.
The care home also celebrated the achievements of their other nominees – Vicky, Emily, and Rachel – who were recognised for their excellence and dedication. “Each of them represents the very best of what we do, and to us, they’re all winners,” the spokesperson added.
Some highlights from our colleagues nominations:
Vicky: “Family members frequently commend her dedication and the exceptional support she provides to their loved ones.”
Emily: “She provides calm, gentle, and person-centred care, always attentive to each individual’s holistic needs and preferences.”
Rachel: “She is recognized for her clinical expertise, commitment to quality, diligence, and effective clinical governance. Colleagues praise Rachel for her empathetic and supportive nature, quickly noticing subtle changes in residents and staff to ensure compassionate care.”
The awards night served as a powerful reminder of the vital role care professionals play in the lives of individuals and families across Plymouth. Devonshire House & Lodge expressed their gratitude for being part of such an inspiring and supportive care community.
